STAINED GLASS COOKIES

How cute is this!!!   A cookie that you can hang up on your tree or you can eat!  The 9th day of 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS COOKIES is decorated with Stained Glass Cookies!!

If you think this is complicated to make, think again!!!  It’s easy to make, it’s really unique and the ingredients are just basic pantry items plus the hard candy to make the stained glass.

Stained glass churches are one of the most beautiful churches ever built.  I had the privilege of seeing the Notre Dame when I was visited Paris and it was unforgettable.  It was beautiful and breathtaking.  It takes the artist hours and hours to make them and it shows in the craftsmanship.  Now fortunately for us, this stained glass cookie creation  does not take hours to do and they are edible!  So, what are you waiting for!!  Let’s start making them!

In a stand mixer bowl, mix flour, sugar and salt.  While the machine is on, add the softened butter, 1 tablespoon at a time.

Add the cream cheese and the vanilla and beat again.

It will come out crumbly but you can use your hand to shape it into a ball.

Shape into a ball or a disk then wrap it and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or 2 days.

While the dough is chilled, you can make the crushed hard candy.  The stained glass is made from hard candy that is crushed into small pieces, using a chopper like the one I have on the picture below or you can also use food processor.

Put the dough in between 2 parchment paper.  Roll out out to about 1/4 inch thickness.

Here comes the fun part!  Get your Christmas-themed cookie cutters out and have a blast!

To make a hole in the center, use the end of a  large piping tip.  They make a perfect hole.

If you are going to make this into an ornament, make a small hole on top with a toothpick.

After baking it for 5 minutes, take the cookie out.  Using the large tip as a funnel, pour in 1/8 tsp of the crushed hard candy.  Then bake them again for another 5 minutes.

After baking, let it cool off for about 10 minutes to let the candy harden.  If you pick it up too fast, the candy will stick the parchment paper and the center might break.

Thread a cute Christmas ribbon and there you go!!  An edible Christmas ornament!!

Happy Baking !!!
