Mini pound cake covered with chocolate and topped off with turtle dove chocolate!! These Pound Cake Petit Four will be a favorite at your Christmas party!!! The 2nd day of 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS CAKES!!
They’re too cute to eat!!!! But looks too delicious not to devour it!!! ? It was so fun making this Petit Four recipe because it was mini and simplified!!! Petit Four meaning “small oven” in French is traditionally made with small cakes that is topped with marzipan and covered in fondant or chocolate. There are also recipes that has layers of cake, jam, cake and covered with royal icing. So many combinations and flavors to use! This recipe that we are going to make is simplified yet still delicious and still looks beautiful.
For the cake, I used Paula Deen’s pound cake recipe. Instead of baking it in a bundt pan I made it in 9×13 baking sheet. For the glaze, I used candy melts (You can choose from many colors to match with your event!). Easy and fast to make!! I made my chocolate dove with the candy melts too but I did it in advance. If you like to plan ahead, you can even make the chocolate 1 month ahead. Just make sure that you store it in a airtight container. Now let’s start making the cake!!
In your stand mixer, cream butter and shortening together. Then add sugar a little at a time while the mixer is at low speed.
Add the eggs one at a time.
Alternatively add the dry mixture, which is flour, baking powder and salt, into the stand mixer …..
Then add the milk and make sure to end with flour. So it 1/3 Flour, ½ milk, 1/3 flour, ½ milk and ends with 1/3 flour.
Then add the vanilla extract and mix again but be careful not to over mix.
Pour the batter into 2 greased 9×13 baking sheet and spread evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
After it’s cooled, using a biscuit cutter, cut the circles and put it on a baking sheet. Prepare the chocolate by melting 1 cup candy melts with 1 tbsp of shortening. Dip the cake into the candy melt or pour the candy melt on the cake.
To make it look like a cloud, I drizzled some melted white chocolate on top of the petit four.
Put the dove chocolate that’s made by using dove mold. Here’s where I bought the mold.
Et Voila!!! Here is the Petit Four Pound cake!! Easy to make, right!! Another great thing about this cake is you can make them in advance and just glaze it with chocolate on the day of the event. You can also use many different colors for the candy melt so the possibilities are endless!!
Day 2 is for Turtle Doves Petit Four Pound Cake!! Try saying that 5 times fast!!
Happy baking!!!
