Happy DESSERT IMPOSTOR Month!!! October is the month to dress up in costumes so why not dress up desserts, too!! Our first impostor is Pancake Cake. Looks like a stack of pancakes but it really is a cake!!!
I have to say, I had a lot of fun making this cake!! I’ve been wanting to make this cake every since I saw it at the Dessert Impostor episode in Kids Baking Championship, but I just haven’t had the opportunity to make it. But then I thought why not make it during Halloween!!! If you can dress yourself up, let’s also dress up your dessert!
The first thing you do is of course make your cake. You can make it as short or as tall, depending on the size of stack you’d like to have. After baking the cake, filling it, stacking and crumb coating it, you are ready to make your “Pancake”! Or if you want, you can use a store-bought cake and scrape the icing, and you have a blank canvas!
First prepare long strips of fondant to go around the cake. The taller the cake is, the more strips you have to make. For this cake, I have a 3 layered cake, so I used about 10 strips of fondant.
So here is what my cake looks like. So I start from the bottom and go all the way to the top.
You want to make sure that you start from the same spot so that the front of the cake looks the same. Keep on going until your reach the top.
Once you reach the top, roll out a thick circle that you are going to put as the top of the pancake.
Then using a brown and yellow food coloring, brush the colors so the cake looks like real pancakes!!
Drizzle it with some maple syrup or homemade caramel sauce, top it with it of fresh blueberries and you’ve got yourself a pancake cake!!! This cake totally fooled my boys and my friends!! How fun is this to serve for Halloween!!!
Happy Baking!!
