EASTER FABERGE EGG CAKE

A beautiful and unique cake that is inspired by Faberge Eggs!  EASTER month is made beautiful by the Easter Faberge Egg Cake!! Happy Easter from my family to yours!!

Are you familiar with the Fabergé eggs?  You know, those intricate and beautifully eggs from Russia?  I’m so fascinated by them that I made a cake inspired by them!!

As I was looking for what pattern to make on the cake, I started researching on Faberge Eggs and what an interesting history!  Here’s a few fun facts of the Fabergé eggs:

  • A goldsmith, jeweler and designer named Peter Carl Faberge was commissioned to do the production of the eggs in the 1800’s in St. Petersburg, Russia.
  • The eggs are usually a gift from the tsar to his spouse on Easter.
  • Made from different materials, such as gold, silver, diamonds, pearls, etc.
  • Often the eggs can be opened and there would be a surprise inside the egg.
  • It takes about 1-2 years to make each egg.
  • Only 43 out of 50 imperial eggs are known to exist.
  • It’s worth is as high as $33 million

You might ask,”Onie, what is your favorite egg?”  Well, to be honest with you, it’s really hard to pick my favorite because they are all beautiful, unique and each one is a piece of art.  But my top 3 favorites are the Winter Egg, Third Imperial Egg, Imperial Tsarevich Easter Egg.  How about yours?

Just as the Faberge eggs takes a great deal of time and patience and a steady hand, this Easter Faberge Eggs Cake also takes a great deal of time and patience.  Well not 2 years but it does take awhile!

For this Easter month, I used the most trusted Chocolate cake and frosting recipe that I bake to make my Chocolate Cake Pops  .   To make this cake, I only used 1 layer of of a 9-inch cake.  So this means the Chocolate cake recipe that makes 2 layer cakes, can be made into 2 eggs!

After leveling the cake, I made a template of an egg silhouette then cut the cake to shape.

Then I prepare 3 piping bags for each color.  The best part about this is you can decorate with any colors you want!!

I crumb coat the cake before I pipe the frosting just to make sure that there is no crumbs and the cake is sturdy for the piped frosting to go on top.   I like to use the main color for the crumb coat instead of white.  That way when I’m adding the piping to the top, the white won’t show.  Then I score the cake with a ruler to make sure that the diamond shape is somewhat even.

I actually timed myself when I started piping the little dots on the cake and it took me about 40 minutes to pipe the whole cake.  It’s really not too bad if you have the TV on.  It’s actually quite therapeutic!!  But remember to stretch every 5-10 minutes so that your body is not too stiff!!  And ta da!!  Here is the finished product!!  It’s now one of my favorite Easter dessert to make!!

Well, I can’t wait to see your creation!  Come visit me at Facebook and I would love it if you can post your own Faberge egg!

Happy Easter!!  May your Easter be full of love and sweetness!!

Happy baking!!
